Error : Posting Period Locked; specify an alternative date

Error : Posting Period Locked; specify an alternative date

While working with SAP B1 and pushing some data to the application, sometimes you might encounter the above error. The error means that the period of posting data is currently locked.

Cause

Sometimes, administrator intentionally locks a posting period to restrict the users to push data at a time period. this is an existing feature of SAP B1 which restricts the user to post data to a posting period which is restricted by the administrator. Generally administrator does lock a posting period when reports are generated for a particular posting period and no other adjustments is needed.

In SAP B1, one can lock posting period using the following steps:

  • Go to Administration menu.
  • Click System Initialization
  • Open Posting Period
  • Lock the posting period.

By doing so, the default posting period is locked and no data would be accepted by SAP B1 server.

SAP Business One User Licenses has different levels for different type of users. Check out the Module Level Rights for SAP Business One User Licenses!

Solution

One solution of the issue is to unlock the posting period in SAP B1 and then push the data again. To do this operation follow the steps:

  • Go to Administration menu.
  • Click System Initialization
  • Open Posting Period
  • Unlock the posting period.

But it is also recommended to check correctly whether the data which is passed to SAP B1 is having the correct date. Generally people will never lock a period which is current, and it is not recommended to post data in an old date. Hence you should be cautious about the data that you are posting than unlocking it.

Hope this helps.
