What do you mean by Integration?
An integration is a process of developing a connectivity between two or more applications such that the data from one application can automatically update the data to another application. An Integration is a process to ensure data integrity between the applications are maintained and therefore the state of the applications are always updated.
With the proliferation of data we are in a age where Information technology can be utilized the most efficient way for business benefit. To ensure we get most of the data, we must consider all data is updated correctly in the applications in use such that business benefits could be achieved. An integrated system ensures all the data created in one application could be automatically updated in another on the same system .
For example, let us consider we are having an eCommerce site where large number of orders are getting pushed everyday. These orders require customer registration and also payments. But an eCommerce site does not have all the functionalities needed by an enterprise. To do all accounting jobs, the enterprise needs an Accounting software. The accounting software maintains balance sheets, purchase and sales, manufacturing, shipping information, Inventories etc. Now to get an update of actual payments made by a customer online and whether shipping process needs to be started, the enterprise would need an integrated system.
